Manchester United EFL woes continues….

Manchester United fell to Derby County at home on Tuesday in their EFL cup fixture. United played a 2-2 draw against a Lampard led side but lost on Penalties 7-8. This is the second consecutive season United will be knocked out by lower league team in the cup. Lampard’s Derby County showed great fight and spirit, they pushed United and got their reward.

Manchester United used a relatively strong XI with few key players missing from the team. Juan Mata opened the scoring just three minutes into the game to give the home side the lead. United relaxed a bit which gave Derby a little momentum. Harry Wilson equalized at the 59th minute.

Jack Marriott scored at the 86th minute to give Derby the lead which seemed like the winner but United kept pushing and got their equalizer at the death with a goal by Fellaini to take the game into extra time.

No goals during the extra time as the game went to penalties. Phil Jones missed his penalty which crashed United out of the EFL cup.

Jose Mourinho will be angry with his players after their disappointing display, a game they should have won. Before the game, their were reports coming out from the United camp about Pogba being stripped of his captain armband after Pogba’s comments recently. This will cause more problems and unrest in the United dressing room because of the caliber of player Paul Pogba is, and will fuel his exit rumors with Barcelona and Real Madrid on the French man radar.

A lot of United fans are already calling for the head of Jose Mourinho as they have lost faith in him and his tactics. The United board are also growing impatient with Mourinho and will be looking to review his stay at the club if the results do not improve. United dropped points at home on Saturday to Wolves, got knocked out of the EFL cup. They are in a tricky UCL group and will have to be at their very best if they are to qualify from the group. United presently do not look too good in the League with Liverpool, Chelsea, City already setting the pace.

This is not a good time to be a United fan, hell, Since Alex Ferguson left it has not been a good time to be a United fan. The easiest solution presently for United is to give Mourinho the sack letter but it will be difficult to find a proper replacement for him at this time that can handle this complex United squad. United will observe Mourinho till January and if the team do not improve and show that they can win any title I think the board will sack him and are already looking for his replacements presently.

Manchester United will travel to London on Saturday to face West Ham United as they look to find their winning form back before their UCL fixture next week.
