Barcelona transfer roundup 05/07/2018

Its already four days since the transfer window opened and Barca are looking to clinch the signings of Clement Lenglet and Arthur Melo this week. According to several reports from the Spanish media and reputable Catalan journalists, Barcelona will pay the buy out clause of Lenglet, and they will also send their representatives to Brazil to complete Arthurs’ deal so both players can start preseason training with the club next week.

The signing of Arthur Melo is complicated because European teams have 3 non-EU spot which is completely filled by Coutinho, Mina and Paulinho for Barcelona. Coutinho could get his EU passport soon to create space for Arthur but it is unlikely at the moment. Barca will look to either sell Paulinho or loan Mina to create space. Paulinho had a fantastic first season for Barcelona while Mina had a fantastic world cup scoring 3 goals at the tournament before his exit, so it would be difficult for the club to let both players leave.

Barcelona have received offers from Everton and Fernabahce for Yerry Mina, both offers are X2 of what Barcelona paid to sign him in January, it is really tempting for the club to sell considering they have Vermalean and are close to completing the Lenglet deal. The opinion of the board and coach is to loan the player or sell with a buy-back clause fixed but no final decision has been made yet, he could as well remain at the club. The opinion of the fans is to cash in on Mina, he is not a fan favorite at the club after his abysmal performance towards the end of the campaign last season.  I personally will prefer to let Mina remain at the club and partner Lenglet (if the deal eventually happens) while Barca cash in on Vermalean.

Barcelona are presently negotiating to sign Willian from Chelsea, according to reports, Barca initial two bids of 60M and 80M have been rejected by Chelsea, the board are looking to sign an experienced forward after failing to secure Antoine Griezmann signing. Fans are not fully in support of the move as they see the transfer as too expensive and not needed. I personally am not a fan of Willian and I would not want to see him at the club, but he is a quality player and would add a lot to Barca if he eventually joins.

The board is also looking to strengthen the midfield with an experienced and established player. Rabiot is presently on the club’s radar after they discarded the transfer of Thiago(Bayern Munich) and Pjanic(Juventus). Rabiot will be a great addition to Barca if they succeed to get him but I would prefer Barca attempt to try to sign Verratti again before settling for Rabiot (A top quality player no doubt). Not too much reports on Barca options for Midfielders presently.

The board has opened the door for Jasper Cilllessen to leave if he is willing to leave. Barca are looking to promote Ortola(Barca B) as third choice keeper, and are already scouting for back up goalkeeper for MaTS if Cillessen eventually leaves this summer.

Barcelona plan to strengthen the CB position (Lenglet main option), Midfield (Arthur,Rabiot main  options) and forward (Willian main option)

I personally would want the board to look towards Antony Martial for the forward position ahead of Willian, and possibly De ligt alongside Leglet to strengthen the defense line.

We Barca fans hope that various deal will be completed before the season starts unlike like summer when the club was still in the market on transfer deadline day. Ernesto Valverde will look to improve on the team’s success next season as they eye UEFA Champions league glory after their back to back quarter final exits.
