As matchday 20 comes to an end which marks the end to 2018, an amazing year for football which saw Manchester City lift the premier league in May with a record 100 points. Now mid-way into this season Liverpool sits comfortably on top with 7 points as they hope to end their 30 years wait for the league title.
Liverpool demolished Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday 5-1 in what was a dominant performance from the reds. The gunners took the lead early on the game, but the reds bounced back and scored five with Arsenal putting up a shameful defensive performance. Firmino got an hattrick in the game, this season has not been so good to him in terms of goals but he is finding his rhythm back and will use this motivation to push on and get more goals in 2019.
Tottenham has been beating teams left right and center and were tipped to challenge for the title after topping City briefly but fell at home to Wolves 3-1 in what was an impressive and mature display from the Wolves team. Tottenham started the game strong and a wonder strike from Harry Kane put them in the lead. Wolves got back into the game in the 72 minutes with a goal from Boly, they doubled their lead with Raul Jimenez and a late strike from Costa to seal Wolves 3 points at Wembley.
Chelsea earned all three points after a solo strike from Kante. Chelsea dominated most parts of the game with Crystal palace defending deep and Chelsea nullifying all Palace attack. Chelsea heads into new year 4th place and in touching distance of competing for the title.
Manchester City returned to winning ways after defeating Southampton 3-1 at the St. Mary stadium. City dominated the game with their sharp attacking prowess, David Silva opened the scoring in the 10th minute to give City the lead. Hojbjerg capitalized on a Zinchenko error to level his side. It did not last long as Prowse own goal and Aguero header at the death of half time gave City all three points. On Thursday, Manchester City will host Liverpool in a must win game for the shark team to be in touching distance of Liverpool.
Manchester United have continued their winning run under Ole Gunner after defeating Bournemouth 4-1 at home. Pogba enjoying his new-found free role in midfield scored a brace with Rashford and Lukaku getting in among the goals. United has ended the year on a high winning their last three games under the new manager. They are just three points behind Arsenal who are fifth. United will look to continue their new form in 2019 as they struggle to enter the top 4.
